Halfnelson 3x Removed

Zak Mering and Tyler Thacker are Los Angeles based musicians and producers. Armed with their home studios, Zak (of Raw Thrills (formely insted) and Silent Talk) and Tyler aka The Gatekeeper (of Totally Radd!!, Dazzler, and the Hot Tramps) set out to render moderately faithful tributes to a demo by Halfnelson (later to become Sparks) roughly dated to 1968. For anyone who knows of Sparks, they are a seminal art rock band, natives to Los Angeles, having gone on to record over 30 records and counting. They're lyrical and musical tomfoolery have lent itself to some of the most infectious, whimsical, and demented records of the past 40 years. Both Zak and Tyler were mesmerized by a bootleg demo with roughly a dozen "demos", most of which didn't even end up on their debut record besides Roger. The demos, if you are lucky enough to hear, provide a truly bizzare take on psychedelic 60's pop, reminiscent of other acts like the Mothers of Invention or Roy Wood, with the recognizable Sparks sound reverberating in a strangely domestic context. The songs 3x Removed are a brief tribute to one of the greatest Los Angeles bands and were made to synthesize the same experimentation and playfulness that enamored Zak and Tyler when listening to the rare Halfnelson demos...
